Ex-Hearts captain Jacob Nettey has warned the club to pull out of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup due to their poor form, claiming it will be a waste of the club’s scarce resources.
The 39-year-old claims the club lacks the quality to compete in Africa’s inter-club competition and will be unprofitable to venture into the competition.
Hearts have flattered to deceive since the start of the season and only got a reprieve after recording a narrow 1-0 win over sworn rivals Asante Kotoko in Kumasi last Saturday.
The former African champions are 11 th on the Ghana Premier League table with a paltry 8 points from a possible 18 and Jacob Nettey, who was a member of the 2000 African champions League squad, is concerned the squad lacks the depth to challenge for the crown in Africa.
“I have made the point that Hearts lack the quality to play in Africa. You don’t need to be a magician to see that,” he told Oman FM
“For me it will be a waste of money for them to play in Africa. The players are new and not experienced enough.
“If you want to compete at the highest level, you must have the quality players to do but I’m sorry we simply don’t have that kind of quality in the team.
“If they go, they won’t get anywhere and that for me is a waste of money.”
Nettey’s call however has come a little late as they will face sanctions if they opt out of the competition.
The Rainbow club will play AS Police of Benin in the preliminary stage of the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup.
