The National Youth Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, says dropping the ‘annoying’ Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in the 2016 elections would end the general despair, poverty and hardships Ghanaians currently find themselves in.
According to him, Ghanaians are tired of the ‘limping Mahama-Amissah-Arthur administration’ which, he said, has no clue in managing the sinking economy, as a result of which they cannot be allowed to govern beyond 2016.
Addressing a forum organised by the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party at Sunyani Polytechnic over the weekend under the theme, ‘Effective Participation of the Youth for Victory 2016,’ Sammy Awuku said the NDC does not deserve a third term due to their abysmal performance in government and the economic mess they have created to derail the progress of the country.
The outspoken NPP Youth Organiser further indicated that next year’s general elections are about the future of the Ghanaian youth and not about Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the NPP flagbearer, or his running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Sammy Awuku, whose speech was interspersed with cheers from the students, noted that there is too much hardship in the country as majority of the citizenry are struggling to make ends meet under the reign of the NDC.
He took a swipe at the government for treating Ghanaian students and graduates badly such that graduates cannot find jobs after school.
He urged the youth of the country to take their own destiny into their hands by going all out to campaign against the Mahama administration to bring back the NPP so as to restore the hopes and the dreams of the Ghanaian people.
The NPP Youth Organiser pointed out that TESCON has a major role to play in NPP’s victory come December 2016.
He charged the students to involve themselves in the campaign to ensure that the NPP wins convincingly to prevent another Supreme Court saga, stressing that the party would not like to go through that experience again.
Mr Awuku also advised the youth and all NPP supporters to extend a hand of love to many voters who have regretted voting for the NDC.
The First Vice Chairman of the Sunyani East Constituency, Lawrence Amponsah, said that the youth of this country cannot decide not to take part in the campaign to get rid of the incompetent Mahama administration in 2016 because the actions of the government would continue to affect the youth, especially tertiary students who continue to pay high fees only to graduate and not get jobs.
‘We have a government that is not creating the jobs or even creating the opportunities for the private sector to create the needed jobs,’ he stated.
Other speakers including the Regional Women’s Organiser, Ama Amponsah, lashed out at the government for supervising corruption in the country and making life unbearable for the youth.
The executives of TESCON S-Poly called for youth-oriented initiatives and policies to inspire the youth to use their potentials to help develop the country.
