CAF Dream Team: Ayew, Mensah in CAF best XI; Atsu out!

The Confederation of African Football has picked Ghanaian duo Andre Ayew and Jonathan Mensah in their ‘Dream Team’ for the just ended African Cup of Nations.

The triumphant Ivorians dominated the side, contributing five players, including the Toure brothers Yaya and Kolo, as well as Manchester City newcomer Wilfried Bony.

The XI, selected by a panel of CAF ‘experts’ chose Ayew and Mensah, alongside the five Ivorian players following the Ivory Coast’s dramatic penalty shootout win on Sunday night.

But bizzarely Black Stars winger Christian Atsu – who was named player of the tournament – was omitted.

Atsu started each of Ghana’s six games and finished the tournament with two goals.

He also picked another prize for his impressive performance, winning the Nissan Goal of the tournament for his magnificent strike in Ghana’s 3-0 win over Guinea during the group stages.

CAF’s Technical Committee selected the Dream Team on Monday.

AFCON 2015 Dream Team:

Midfielders: Geoffrey Serey Die (Ivory Coast), Yaya Tourรƒยฉ (Ivory Coast) and Sibusiso Vilakazi (South Africa)
