On target again: Boakye Yiadom scores in Atalanta loss

It was an anticlimax for Richmond Boakye Yiadom on Sunday afternoon after the Ghana striker came off the bench to strike for Atalanta in the Italian Serie A but it was still not enough to prevent his side suffering a 3-2 defeat at Fiorentina.

On the day his national team could be crowned African champions, Boakye entered the field in the 80th minute with Atalanta trailing by two goals to one but within three minutes of being on the pitch, the Ghanaian was at the right place to strike in the equaliser for Atalanta to make it 2-2 with a mere seven minutes of the 90 remaining.

22 year old Boakye was however powerless to stop high-flying Fiorentina to nick all three points after Italian defender, Manuel Pasqual popped up in the 89th minute to score and seal victory for the home team at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The strike is Boakye’s third in 15 league games (6 starts) for the club he is on loan at from Serie A champions and leaders, Juventus.

Atalanta remain in 15th spot on 23 points from 22 Serie A games this term and next face Inter Milan at home next Sunday. Follow @thedonplato
