THE PREDICTOR: Predictions for the top weekend matches

One African Cup final, five derbies and a top-of-the-table clash in France provide the backdrop for this weekend.

Ghana 2-1 Ivory Coast (aet)
Two of Africa’s most revered football giants will face off for what’s shaping up to be a classic encounter.

Both teams will hope to end thier trophy drought on Sunday, with Ghana, the second-most successful team in the competition’s history, have had to wait longer since they last lifted the crown aloft, however, with their most recent triumph coming in 1982.

On the other hand, the Ivorians have won a sole Africa Cup of Nations trophy, emerging as victors in 1992 when, coincidentally enough, it was Ghana they beat 11-10 on penalties.

Ghana always struggle against their neighbours but this time around, it will be Ivory Coast who fall at the Black Stars’ feet in 2015.

Asante Kotoko 1-1 Hearts of Oak
Fans are always passionate and emotions are high when Asante Kotoko lock horns with Hearts of Oak in a competitive match.

Both teams are not on good form this term with the defending Champions lying 5th on the League table whiles the Phobians are ranked 13th after five matches.

The Porcupine Warriors will be boosted with the return of striker Ahmed Toure and midfielder Jordan Opoku but expect Hearts not to too easily give up ground at the Baba Yara stadium.

Atletico Madrid 1-3 Real Madrid
The Madrid derby remains a fiercely contested affair that, in recent times at least, Diego Simeone’s side have enjoyed the edge in.

However, the return of Cristiano Ronaldo  for this game will likely be enough for Real Madrid to eke out a win at the Vicente Clderon for the first time in two years.

Simeone seems to have figured out how to get results against Real, but I foresee goals, controversy, drama and a win for the Los Blancos this time around.

Juventus 3-1 AC Milan
Juventus is miles ahead of Milan, this is very simple.  This match in Turin isn’t even a contest for the Old Ladies. Besides, Juventus have dominated this fixture in recent years and should have little difficulty with an AC Milan side that continues to struggle in Serie A.

Tottenham 2 – 2 Arsenal
This should be a great game, given both sides will be full of confidence, but neither will want to lose ground on the top four.

Perhaps the most exciting and intriguing game of the weekend. Both teams are in good spirits and good form, and both sides are capable of scoring a few goals. Arsenal have perhaps been more convincing in recent weeks, however, Spurs are also on a roll, and spearheaded by Harry Kane, expect them to enjoy sweet derby success.

Lyon 1-1 PSG
This match could go either way, but both sides cannot afford to lose. Lyon are unbeaten in eight league matches, having kept six straight clean sheets.

PSG have won three straight games and are finally in position to reclaim top spot. Without Alexandre Lacazette, Lyon looks toothless and might struggle a bit upfront. A draw is likely to happen.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool
Neither of these teams have been filling the goal of late, which would seem to indicate this derby won’t be anything like the thrilling 3-3 draw when last they met at Goodison Park.

Liverpool will enter this match full of confidence, considering recent results. Derbies are always exciting occasions, and this one looks set to be no different. A score draw looks likely.
