Accra, Feb. 6, GNA – Standard Chartered Bank Ghana has launched its football tournament dubbed ‘Standard Chartered Trophy – Road to Anfield” aimed at providing local markets with a platform to actively engage supporters and donate to charity.
The ‘Standard Chartered Trophy – Road to Anfield 2015’ is an international 5-a-side football tournament that provides local markets with a platform from which to actively engage football fans and also help them donate to charity in order to develop football.
The tournament, scheduled for February 28, at the Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra will draw participation from 36 teams for the Ghana edition. This includes teams by staff of the Bank, corporate bodies, customers/clients and the media.
A regional tournament with the winning teams from Ghana, Gambia and Nigeria will be held in Ghana on March 14, with the winner representing West Africa at Anfield, the home ground of Liverpool FC, where a total of 10 teams from across Standard Chartered’s global footprints will compete for the ultimate trophy.
Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, Kweku Bedu-Addo, said ‘As a brand which is passionate about what resonates with our customers and clients, Standard Chartered has leveraged on the sponsorship with Liverpool FC to make the dreams of many football fans across our markets come true.
This is the fourth year of the event but the first of its kind in Ghana.
