No need! Kuffour urges CAF to cancel 3rd place match

Sammy Kuffour is adamant that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) must cancel the match for third place at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in the wake of violent and disgraceful scenes enacted by home supporters in Thursday’s second semi final between Ghana and Equatorial Guinea.

Down 0-3 and obviously well beaten in their own country, fans of the host nation turned their fury on Ghanaian fans at the Estadio de Malabo. The Ghana supporters had no choice to flee from the stands and unto the pitch which halted proceedings for nearly half an hour.

Calm would eventually prevail and the game concluded, but Kuffour insists the act by the fans must not go unpunished as it not only sets a bad precedence for Africa’s biggest tournament but also brings shame to the continent as a whole.

This is what I picked up off the pitch (mirror, broken plate, stone – one of 100s). Truly shameful. Why? #AFCON2015 http://t.co/UUTSDNj0Tz โ€” Piers Edwards (@piers_e) 2013-07-22 14:22:09.0
