Newmont Akyem Project donates 25 footballs to schools

New Abirem (E/R), February 6, GNA – The Newmont Akyem Gold Mining Project, has donated 25 footballs to the Birim North Education Directorate, for distribution to 23 basic schools, one second cycle school and the district sports office in the nine affected communities in the district, to whip up the interest of the game in those schools.

Presenting the footballs, the General Manager of the Newmont Akyem Project, Mr Kevin Moxham, said it was the companies corperate social responsibility to contribute towards the development of football in basic schools in the district.

He advised the school authorities to put the footballs to good use, to support the development of the game in the schools.

The District Director of Education, Mr Eric Atakora, commended the Newmont Akyem Mining Project for the numerous educational assistance to basic schools in the district.

These assistance, he said,    had helped to improve the standard of education in the schools.

Mr Atakora gave the assurance that the footballs would be given to the beneficiary schools to help raise the standard of the game in the district. GNA
