Thanks a million.. but no thanks: Adebayor rejects ONE MILLION POUNDS a month move to Qatar

Emmanuel Adebayor turned down a stunning £1MILLION A MONTH offer to quit Tottenham for a club in Qatar.

Striker Adebayor was made the offer during the January transfer window, but rejected the move.

Now, Adebayor has held clear-the-air talks with chairman Daniel Levy, who prevented the player joining West Ham on deadline day because he would not subsidise his £100,000-a-week wages.

Adebayor also turned down moves to Queens Park Rangers and Stoke, while approaches from Roma and Paris Saint-Germain did not work out after Spurs told him they wanted to ship him out on loan.

The 30-year-old Togo international said: ‘The transfer window was open for a month and we all knew what was happening. It didn’t all happen in 48 hours.

“The club decided to send me out on loan, which I was pleased with. There were five good clubs interested and I [narrowed it down to] three before choosing the one I wanted. But Mr Levy was against the one I chose, because it was a rival.

‘But I’m very happy to stay at the club and do my job.”

Adebayor and Levy have now brokered peace and the former Arsenal forward is determined to fight for a place in the team.

He could have gone to the Middle East on an even bigger deal, as one offer from an unnamed Qatari club would have netted him £130,000-a-week – after tax.

That is the equivalent to £245,000-a-week – more than DOUBLE his current deal – and his decision to stay shows that he is not all about money.

Adebayor has 18 months left on his contract at Spurs but has fallen out of favour after criticising the atmosphere at White Hart Lane following a home defeat to Stokeearlier in the season.

But Adebayor also tried to make peace with the fans in an interview with Sky Sports, adding: ‘I’m sad about that. We have to beat sides like Stoke at home, so after the game I was not happy.

‘I can understand [the fans’] feelings… but a player playing with confidence is better than one playing with doubt. But if someone thinks I don’t appreciate their support, it’s a lie.

“I didn’t mean to hurt anyone. We have to forget those things and move on.’
