Ghanaian double: Okrah scores and assists Coffie goal in 2-2 Al Merreikh draw

Augustine Okrah and countryman, Francis Coffie keep writing the headlines just three match days into their Sudani Premier league careers after the duo both scored to salvage their new club, Al Mereikh a 2-2 draw on Wednesday against Al Ahli Khartoum.

Ghana Premier League goalking of last season, Okrah had already won the MVP award in his first league game on Saturday whilst Coffie had also made history by scoring within seven minutes of his debut game in the Sudan top flight, thereby also scoring Al Merreikh’s first goal of the new season as they romped to a resounding 3-1 victory against Al Rabta Kosti last week.

And on Wednesday night, both started a league game together for the first time as Al Merreikh sought to maintain their 100% start to the 2015 season on Match Day 3.

Okrah was at his predatory best after 25 minutes at the Al Merreikh Stadium in Omdurman, the former Bechem United striker being the first to get to a rebound to slot in the opening goal to put Al Merreikh ahead.

Okrah was at it again when he was denied a blatant penalty after running with the ball from around the centre of the field, his well floated cross was prevented getting to his intended teammate by an opposition defender’s hand but the referee waved play on.

The Ghanaian will however not be denied again in the 37th minute even if he would not score himself, assisting for countryman, Francis Coffie to put Al Merreikh two goals up. Okrah’s powerful freekick was saved by the Al Ahli Khartoum goalkeeper into the path of Coffie who was in the penalty area to tap in the rebound.

“God I thank you once again for giving me one goal today,” Coffie wasted no time in posting on Facebook soon after the game.

Al Merreikh will however surrender the seemingly comfortable lead to eventually settle for a share of the spoils 2-2 for their first dropped points of the new campaign.

Okrah and Coffie’s side still sit atop the Sudani Premier League standings on seven points from 3 games. Follow @thedonplato
