4×100 Gold Medalist, Esther Dankwah Shows Love To The Needy


Esther Dankwah, a 4×100 gold medalist at the 2007 All Africa Games last Tuesday presented items worth €25,000 to four organizations in Accra. The items which included shoes, clothes, toys and hospital equipment were presented on a tour which took Miss Dankwah to the Maamobi General Hospital, the Helpage Ghana Day Centre for Older People, the Street Academy and the Teshie Orphanage.

Presenting the items to nursing mothers at the Maamobi General Hospital, Ms Dankwah now based in the Netherlands explained that the main focus of her foundation, the Dankwah Street Academy (DSA) is to bring relief to the needy in Ghanaian society.

“I am a mother, so when I set up the DSA Foundation in the Netherlands my main aim was to support women,children and the elderly who are the vulnerable in Ghanaian society”.

Mr Monica Jalluh, the Principal Nursing Officer of the hospital expressed gratitude to the DSA for the items urging the foundation to continue supporting the hospital.

The, Executive Director of Helpage Ghana, Ebenezer Adjetey Sorsey urged all retired athletes to follow in the footsteps on Ms Dankwah by involving themselves in sporting activities for elderly people while Ataa Lartey, the founder of the Street Academy praised the DSA for coming to the aid of needy children.

The final stop for Ms Dankwah was the Teshie Orphanage where she presented clothes and shoes to Janet Anyeley Parker, a representative of the home.
