GEJPresident Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday pledged to build a Presidential Resort on the Mambilla Plateau in Taraba to serve as holiday camp for African presidents if re-elected.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Mambilla-Plateau is located on a high altitude making it one of the coolest points in the country.

Jonathan made the pledge while addressing the PDP presidential rally in Jalingo.

The president also said the Federal Government had paid its counterpart fund of 1 billion US dollars for the Mambilla hydroelectric power dam project to support development of the area.

Jonathan said, when completed, the project would generate 3050 megawatts of electricity, provide water for irrigation and create job opportunities for the residents of the area.

He further said the contract for dredging of River Benue with tributaries in the state had since been awarded.

According to him, the development has the capacity to open up the entire Taraba State to huge commercial activities.

Addressing the rally, Rev Jolly Nyame, a former Governor of the state, urged the people to vote massively for Jonathan in order to continue to benefit from the transformation of the country.

NAN reports that hundreds of supporters and party faithful, including Vice President Namadi Sambo, PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, the Senate President, David Mark, attended the rally. (NAN)
