General Secretaries boycott of Joy FM’s Newsfile, ’emotionally incompetent’ – Amoako Baah

Head of Political Science Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST),  Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has described General Secretaries of the three major political parties in the country as ’emotionally incompetent’ after they boycotted of Joy FM’s current affairs show Newsfile.

The failure of General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, to appear for Joy FM’s news analysis program Saturday January 23, 2015, threw the entire program out of gear .

Kwabena Agyepong of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ivor Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Kofi Asamoah Siaw of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) refused to sit in for the show because the General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia failed to turn up.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia and the other three General Secretaries were invited to discuss proposals for electoral reforms put forward by the country’s elections governing body, the Electoral Commission (EC).

However, the chief scribe of the NDC delegated his deputy (who was yet to arrive) to discuss the issues, something the other three General Secretaries thought was demeaning and disrespectful.

Although all three drove to the Faanofa Street studios of MultiTV, they returned home upon learning that Mr. Asiedu Nketia did not show up.

But Dr. Amoako Baah on Adom FM’s Midday News Saturday expressed shock at the turn of events from the General Secretaries.

According to him, the three General Secretaries should have used that opportunity to speak more about their party in the absence of the NDC scribe rather than boycotting the show.

“These politicians could have taken advantage of that opportunity, by telling Ghanaians what they need to know as far as the Electoral reforms are concerned. But rather boycotting because of Johnson Asiedu Nketia, then I think they were also wrong.

“They should have educated the public more, thus, by taking advantage as politicians. They have actually thrown away their chance. What they did, was emotionally incompetent” he bemoaned.

For the first time in nearly two decades, Newsfile, a programme that brings listeners insightful and incisive discussion of the topical issues making the news, every Saturday, was cancelled because of the squabbling of the politicians.
