The Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and e-Crime Bureau will train corporate executives in smartphone security as part of the two organisations’ collective resolve to secure the information and communications technology needs of the business community in Ghana.

The one-day workshop dubbed ‘Smartphone Security Workshop for Corporate Executives” seeks to educate and equip corporate executives against various security threats being generated by criminals targeting private and confidential information on the smartphones of corporate executives.

This is against the backdrop of recent reports suggesting that criminals, fraudsters, business competitors and corporate insiders are targeting business executives through their smartphones, using various crimeware.

The workshop will introduce high level corporate executives to potential internal and external smartphone security threats and take them through best practices to secure and protect their smartphone data/communications through hands-on demonstrations/tutorials with various smartphone devices. Participants will also be provided with cyber security software to secure confidential smartphone information/data.

The training will cover data leakages; smartphone phishing attacks; surveillance attacks; malware attacks, spyware attacks; corporate insider attacks; device tracking; best practices for smartphone disposal; and best practices for disposal of used smartphones amongst others.

Announcing the workshop, Albert Antwi-Boasiako, Principal Consultant of e-Crime Bureau noted that: “Smartphones have become indispensable business tools for corporate executives and for most top executives, smart phones have actually become more of an important business asset in view of the resources which are stored on such devices for corporate and personal uses. The training therefore presents a platform for business executives to safeguard themselves against various threats as criminals continue to upgrade their techniques”.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, February 19 at Alisa Hotel in Accra and will involve top corporate executives including Boards of Directors, Chief Executive Officers, Managing Directors and Heads of Departments from both private- and public-sector organisations.

Commenting on the partnership, Mrs Grace Akosua Dzeble, Executive Secretary of the Accra Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated that: “We see our partnership with E-Crime Bureau as very timely and a step in the right direction. Corporate Ghana needs innovative programmes such as this to stay ahead of criminals as they concentrate on developing their respective organisations”.
