Minister of State for Power, , has disbanded the Technical Committee on Re-connection of Borno State and issued a 48-hour ultimatum for reconnecting the state to the national grid.

This came following a long meeting on the black-out crisis in the terror-hit state, which made the minister take direct charge of the re-connection efforts. He insisted that Maiduguri must be reconnected, irrespective of security and sabotage challenges facing the state.

He told the meeting of the disbanded committee held on Friday afternoon that Borno people were no longer ready to take any further excuses for the continuous blackout. He warned that sanctions will be applied if his directive on reconnection is not effected in two days.

“You have 48 hours to restore electricity back to Maiduguri. I am taking over directly in terms of monitoring and ensuring compliance. We must deploy on all fronts to restore light. Enough is enough,” he told the committee.

The minister also directed the Transmission Company of Nigeria to speed up work on the 330/132/33 kv sub station in Damaturu, which when completed, would improve quality of supply to Borno and Yobe states. He said “Borno should have three sources of power supply from the national grid.”
