Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has admitted Black Stars’ group is as difficult as any other one in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

The four-time Africa champions are housed in Group C with tournament dark horses Senegal, rejuvenated South Africa and the continent’s best ranked team Algeria.

Bookmarkers tagged the unit ‘group of death’ but Appiah said every country in the competition is there on merit and there is nothing like an easy group or difficult one.

“Gone are the days when you could say you will beat your opponent 10 nil or whatever,” the former Black Meteors coach told Accra-based Happy FM.

“Now everyone knows how to play football, so every team is strong. Any team which has qualified for the competition, you should know that if they weren’t good, they wouldn’t qualify.

“You cannot say your group is difficult or what not – what you only have to do is, prepare well and see whether you can win.”

Ghana will open their Afcon 2015 campaign against the Teranga Lions January 19 at the Estadio De Mongomo at 1600GMT.
