Black Stars debutant, Kwesi Appiah has hailed the quality of players in the Black Stars rank and is confident the team will beat expectations and qualify to the latter stages of the competition.
The Black Stars are drawn in Group C alongside continental heavyweights Algeria, South Africa and Senegal.
They will play their first game against the Teranga Lions of Senegal on January 19.
Ahead of their game against Senegal, Kwesi Appiah is confident the team is well prepared and believes the Black Stars are going to survive the difficult Group C.
“We’re quietly confident of our chances of succeeding in this tournament and progressing to the latter stages.”
In explaining how the Stars were going to fare against the likes of Algeria, Senegal and South Africa, the FC Cambridge forward revealed that “the atmosphere is brilliant, the chemistry within the team is fantastic. It helps us as a team to be as one on the pitch.”
According to him, “from outside looking in, you’d think that is the ‘group of death – we’re quietly confident of our chances of succeeding in this tournament and progressing to the latter stages. Obviously, they’re extremely talented teams, we’ve just got to give it all we’ve got.”
