He’s back: Akaminko plays first game since horrific injury

Turkey based defender, Jerry Akaminko is all smiles after making a successful return to the pitch on Wednesday, featuring in club side, Eskiserhirspor’s 3-1 friendly win over Azerbaijan side, Qabara.

It was the first game for the Ghana defender since suffering a horrific ankle injury playing for the national team against Holland in a pre-World Cup friendly that ruled him entirely out of the global tournament in Brazil.

The 26 year old former Heart of Lions captain had surgery in June and was expected to be well again within three months but other complications in his rehabilitation stretched the date of recovery, until now.

Akaminko’s fitness is certainly very positive after the defender played all second half action in the victory over Qabara.

‘Felt like a baby taking it’s first steps last night,’ the Eskisehirspor defender posted on his own Facebook page after the game.

‘Not 100% yet, but happy to be back on the field. Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. JAKA will be back soon,” Akaminko added.

Eskisehirspor have struggled for form this season without the defensive strongman and are desperate to get him back for the second half of the 2014/15 Turkey Super Lig term. Follow @thedonplato
