Black Stars defender Jerry Akaminko is close to making full recovery after close to eight months’ sideline due to an ankle injury.
The tough defender featured for the entire second half for his side, Eskiserhirspor, in their friendly against Azerbaijan’s Qabala last Wednesday.
Nicknamed JAKA, the 26-year-old expressed great delight after the game, saying, ‘I felt like a baby taking its first step last night (Wednesday). Not hundred percent, but happy to be back. Thank you all for your support and kind words. JAKA will be back soon.’
Akaminko failed to make it to the Brazil 2014 World Cup after sustaining an ankle injury in a pre-tourney test game against the Netherlands in Holland.
That ruled him out for three months, but he could not return as scheduled as a result of rehabilitation complications.
The central defender is hoping to rejoin the Black Stars after this year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Equatorial Guinea as well as help his Turkish side when the league resumes for the second round.
