The Baba Yara sports stadium in Kumasi is in a very bad state.
The pitch has succumb to the recent harsh weather conditions and has left the once upon a time lush green field grassless.
Due to the disconnection of electricity at the stadium by the Electricity Company of Ghana (EGC) for non-payment of bills, sprinklers on the pitch do not work, leaving the pitch dry and dusty.
The management of Asante Kotoko are therefore unhappy over the deteriorating state of the pitch.
Operation manager of Kotoko, George Kennedy, told asantekotokosc.com : ‘The condition of the pitch is bad. The grass has turned dry; partly because of the dry weather and again, because the lack of electricity there, the water sprinklers can’t function.’
‘Something ought to be done about the situation. We are levied when we use the stadium. With an impending home game on Wednesday and Africa matches early February, we have to get the pitch in good state. We appealing to the NSA to quickly act on the situation’ he added.
The Porcupine Warriors will begin their FCP Premier League title defence against Aduana Stars on Sunday.
