Pay us well: Local players salaries must be improved – Rahim Ayew


Ex Asante Kotoko versatile defender, Rahim Ayew has called on club administrators to improve the salaries of the local based players in other to curb player exodus.

Major reasons of player exodus in the Ghana premier league has been the meager amount players earn as monthly salaries which has made the local league lose its value thus, the poor standard of football being exhibited.

The 27 year old footballer said for the local league to regain its value the players must also be paid well.

‘The club administrators must improve the salaries of the local based players because for  the league to be attractive, quality players must stay in the country and in other to prevent those players from moving outside, the salary of the local based players must be improved like what the South Africans do in the PSL,” Rahim Ayew told Metro TV sports file.

Rahim Ayew further revealed –  ‘In Europe salaries delays and if you are not paid for 3 or 6 months and you petitioned the country’s FA and still you don’t received your salary you will be automatically be declared as a free agent.”

However, according to Rahim Ayew some journalists are responsible for the decline of the Ghana premier league saying, ‘Ghana’s league is in decline because of some journalists, when I decided to come to Ghana to re-launch my career certain journalists criticized my decision stating that I failed in Europe that is why I have decided to come to Ghana and due to those kind of comments host of Ghanaian players abroad are being reluctant in coming to Ghana to re-launch their career,’ he added.
