Transfer news: Shaqiri talks Liverpool; Arsene Wenger throws 25million for Carvalho

Inter Milan signing Xherdan Shaqiri admits he wanted to move to Liverpool over the summer.

Shaqiri joined Inter last week from Bayern Munich . The Swiss international completed a six-month loan deal to Inter last week, despite strong interest from the Premier League.

“In the end I had a lot of options, very lucrative offers. And I was on the phone with very many Coaches who talked to me about their ideas … But just I felt that Inter did most to get me. My gut feeling was with Inter.

“I had wanted to join Liverpool over the summer, but Bayern would not agree to it. That was not easy for me, but I had to accept it. That’s why I am glad that it has worked out with this move in the winter.

“Even if we are still in the bottom half of the table, we must try with all their might to reach third place. Thus, we have the opportunity to come into the Champions League.”

Arsenal are pushing to sign Sporting CP midfielder William Carvalho inside the next 14 days.

The Daily Star says Arsenal are hoping to confirm the signing of £25million defensive midfielder Carvalho in the next two weeks.

Arsene Wenger has made it clear that a defensive midfielder – a long-term replacement for Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta – is the number one priority for this transfer window.

And now it seems that the Sporting Lisbon’s Carvalho is finally going to be the man to fill that void, with the Gunners pushing through the deal.

It has been reported that Wenger had two failed bids for Carvalho in the summer, but has now returned to the market.

Manchester City have agreed to loan defender Matija Nastasic to German side Schalke until the end of the season.

Schalke have “purchase option” for the 21-year-old, who was signed by ex-City boss Roberto Mancini in August 2012.

His last game for City was a 3-0 defeat by Arsenal in the Community Shield in August.

The Serbia international made only 11 league starts under Pellegrini last season.

Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez remains on Manchester City ‘s radar despite their imminent deal for Wilfried Bony .

City are wary of interest from Liverpool and Tottenham – who are both monitoring Rodriguez closely – and are keen to beat them to his signature, says the Daily Mail.

Rodriguez has a significant new contract offer on the table from Southampton , who are urging him to extend his stay on the south coast.

Southampton are adamant they will not sell Rodriguez, but an offer over £20million will tempt them into letting him talk to another club.

Rodriguez has been out since April after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in a Premier League match against City.
