 Bernard Antwi Bosiako Wontumi Chair

A National Democratic Congress (NDC) group, Youth for Mahama, has pointed accusing fingers at Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, as the person behind the burning of several Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) metres imported into the region.

The group claimed Mr. Antwi Boasiako’s threats in the media to use every means possible to resist the installation of the metres gives him away as the prime suspect.

About 21,000 household electricity metres costing about $2 million were burnt in a fire outbreak at a warehouse in Kumasi on Christmas Eve.

“We smell an elephant in this matter…,” Youth for Mahama claimed at a press conference in Kumasi.

They, therefore, called on the police to widen their investigations and invite the likes of Chairman Wontumi for questioning.

The group is also calling on the government to put in all efforts to find out the cost of the fire outbreak that destroyed ECG’s new metres.

However, the NPP chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako has refused to react to the issue saying he will not give them the chance to achieve cheap political points by using his name.
