Fire Burns

The biggest drug storage and distribution outlet in Ghana has been engulfed by fire on Tuesday morning

The facility belongs to the Ministry of Health.

Adom FM’s Bella Ave reports, thick dark smoke scars the Tema Heavy Industrial Area skyline as firefighters with Ghana Fire Service hurry around the scene at Central Medical Stores.

The key distribution outlet caught fire from a burning bush a few minutes after 10:00am.

The CMS distributes drugs to the Regional Medical Stores in a supply chain that reaches over 216 districts in the country.

The drugs are procured by the government of Ghana. The CMS also houses supplies by the World Health Organisation.

The fire outbreak is the second major fire incident in barely four weeks.

The warehouse of chain-store operators, Melcom, at the North Industrial Area in Accra was gutted by fire on the 3rd of this month.

More soon.
