Adams WC 2014

Aduana Stars are set to receive about $56,000 as the Ghanaian side that had a player in the Black Stars team that played at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil following a windfall by FIFA, the world football governing body.

Goalkeeper Stephen Adams was the only home-based player in the Ghana squad for the tournament and for that FIFA has paid Aduana Stars for his appearance in the tournament.

The amount to be paid to each club depends on how many days a player spent with the national team and with Adams not appearing in any match at the tournament, Aduana is likely to earn the minimum amount of $56,000.

FIFA paid $2,800 for each day players were on official national team duty before and during the World Cup.

The sum was shared between clubs each player was registered with in the previous two years.

If this is true, Ghanaian clubs like Kotoko and AshGold must also earn monies for players like Rashid Sumaila and Fatau Dauda, who played for the respective clubs two years before the World Cup.

The monies will be paid to the Ghana Football Association, who will pass same on to the teams with every team all over the world that had a player at the tournament being handed cash by FIFA.

Nigerian clubs Sunshine Stars, had the most players in the Super Eagles and they were paid ($127,000). Warri Wolves were handed ($120,000) while Gombe United earned ($56,000).

Bayern Munich earned the biggest share of the $70 million FIFA handed out to clubs as compensation for releasing players to the World Cup, taking home $1,734,367.

Real Madrid earned $1,297,800, Chelsea’s share was $1,253,233, and Barcelona got $1,191,167 in figures released by the European Club Association on Thursday.

According to the ECA, five more clubs banked at least $1 million from FIFA: Manchester United, Napoli, Arsenal, Juventus and Manchester City.

The ECA said 396 clubs from 57 countries got FIFA payments.

The smallest cheques of $6,300 went to Al Nasr, Athletic Bilbao and Ipswich.

31 English clubs also received nearly $10m in total benefits from the same tournament.

Chelsea are the biggest beneficiary receiving more than $1.2m, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City each receiving over $1m.
