A Ghanaian song producer, singer and writer based in Cape Town, South Africa, Michael Baffour-Awuah is making a name on the music scene in that country.

His ability to effectively work with artistes specialising in a wide variety of African music is working for him.

Known in showbiz as Pola, he has set up the Good Life Music Records label and studio to produce established as well as up-and-coming artistes within and outside South Africa.

Pola told Graphic Showbiz in an interview at his studio in Claremont, Cape Town, that he was into the production of Afro-pop, kwaito (South African genre), house music, R&B and hip hop and that he was trying to fuse West African style of music with that of southern Africa.

He has so far produced for Zafi and Monkchief from Nigeria. He is currently assisting to produce Jessy Goldstone and Hope, who are South African artistes.

A renowned music producer in Ghana, Genius Selection, who has produced Sarkodie and other Ghanaian artistes, has joined hands with Pola in Cape Town to work together.

According to Pola, the music business in South Africa was more buoyant than what pertains in West Africa, explaining that music producers in that country easily get the opportunity to work with the big names in global music.

Polar hails from Mampong in the Ashanti Region before relocating to South Africa in 2012. He is a graduate of the Central University College with a Bachelor of Science in Banking and Finance.

“I started Good Life Music in Ghana in 2010 and decided to travel to South Africa to learn more about music. I produce, write and sing as well,” Pola told the Graphic Showbiz.

Currently, he is a student of School of Arts and Entertainment (SAE) in Cape Town where he is studying Sound Engineering and Animation.

He said that he is working on the release of a new song which he is hopeful will be promoted in Ghana.
