Losing streak over: Real Madrid thrash Espanyol

Real Madrid snapped their two-match losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Espanyol on Saturday at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

James and Gareth Bale scored in the first half, while Nacho added a third after Los Blancos had been reduced to the men to give Carlo Ancelotti’s side their first three points of 2015.

Ancelotti restored the BBC to his attacking third, with Bale and Karim Benzema joining Cristiano Ronaldo.

The familiar face of Toni Kroos was placed in the central midfield with James on his left and Isco to the right, while in defense it was a rotated quartet of Álvaro Arbeloa, Pepe, Raphael Varane and Fabio Coentrão in front of goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Bale floated in a ball to Ronaldo down the left and the Portuguese did exceptionally well to play a cutback pass to James, who swept in the shot past Espanyol netminder Casilla.

Two minutes before the half hour mark, Bale doubled the lead for Los Blancos with an expertly taken free kick.

That third goal would come in the 76th minute as Nacho recorded his first ever Real Madrid senior team goal to effectively seal the match for the hosts. Isco played a ball on the left to Arbeloa who then crossed for Nacho, and the former Castilla man took it from there swinging in a left-footed shot to make it 3-0.
