Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a convincing win over Sunderland.
The Reds started the game without star man Raheem Sterling who has been given a rest.
His absence made no significant difference as his teammates powered to victory with a solid first half performance.
New signing Lazar Markovic gave Liverpool the lead early in the first half.
Collecting the ball on the edge of the box, he drove into the area before poking it past Pantilimon to give his side the advantage.
Markovic almost got his second with a goal of the season contender; a scissor-kick effort which cannoned off the crossbar.
Despite playing most of the second half with a one-man advantage due to Liam Bridcutt’s sending off, Liverpool failed to add to their tally.
The Merseysiders are 8th on the log with 32 points from 21 games.
