A houseboy has been remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court for robbery.
The accused, Razak Awudu, is alleged to have at about 11:30 pm on January 4, this year, robbed one Veronica Akyen of her Samsung mobile phone valued at GH¢1,100 at American House in Accra.
Making his first appearance in a court presided over by Francis Obiri, Awudu pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery.
He was remanded into police custody to reappear on January 23.
Briefing the court, DSP Patrick Morkeh said the complainant is a student resident at American House whilst the accused person, a houseboy, also lives in the same vicinity.
DSP Patrick Morkeh said on the aforementioned date, the complainant and her elder sister were in their room when they heard a violent shaking of the gate of their shop and decided to go and see who it was.
According to prosecution, when Awudu saw the complainant he told her he was looking for her (complainant’s) sibling, adding that Awudu forced himself into the complainant’s room when she opened the door slightly to see the face of the one making the noise.
DSP Morkeh said Awudu then begun to struggle with Veronica Akyen over her Samsung mobile phone which she was holding, over powered her but as she shouted for help, Awudu ran away with the phone.
He said Veronica then informed the real owner of the phone who as a result began to follow up.
The police officer said the owner had coded her phone in such a way that every picture taken with the phone is downloaded into her Gmail account.
DSP Morkeh said on Tuesday, January 6, the Veronica lodged a complaint and upon the pictures taken, the accused was arrested with the phone enjoying music from it.
He said during investigation, Awudu initially told the police that he bought the phone at GH¢50 from a certain guy he did not know.
According to the police officer, the accused later admitted that he committed the offence himself and pleaded for mercy.
