Asamoah Gyan Vs Czech

Black Stars duo of skipper Asamoah Gyan and his name sake Kwadwo Asamoah were proudly listed among Africa’s Finest XI for 2014 at the flamboyant 20th Glo-CAF Awards at the Eko Hotel in Lagos last Thursday night.

Gyan, who finished fourth in the race for the flagship award, had to console himself with his recognition as one of the best strikers on the continent currently.

He shared that honour with Gabonese marksman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was named as the other striker in the African best eleven squad for 2014.

Interestingly, gifted midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah who was arguably the Black Stars’ best player at the Brazil 2014 World Cup was adjudged one of the best defenders in Africa ostensibly due to the defensive role assigned him by Juventus and former Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah.

Reigning African best player, Yaya Toure, Vincent Enyeama, and Ahmed Musa also made the list.

The full squad comprises goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama ( Nigeria); Defenders: Jean Kasulula (DR Congo), Mehdi Benatia (Morocco), Stephane Mbia (Cameroun) and Kwadwo Asamoah (Ghana).

Midfielders: Yaya Toure (Cote d’Ivoire), Yacine Brahimi (Algeria), Fakhreddine Ben Youssef (Tunisia), and Ahmed Musa (Nigeria).

Strikers: Asamoah Gyan (Ghana) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon).

Substitutes: Rais M’bolhi (Algeria), Firmin Mubele Ndombe (DR Congo), Ferdjani Sassi (Tunisian), Yao Kouasi Gervais (Gervinho, Côte d’Ivoire), Abdelrahman Fetori (Libya), Akram Djahnit (Algeria) and Roger Assale (Côte d’Ivoire).
