REPORTS reaching DAILY GUIDE indicate that two Fulani herdsmen allegedly shot a 28-year-old man, Kwasi Osei, when he was returning from his farm at Kwahu-Oboyan in the Kwahu-East Municipality of the Eastern Region on Thursday.
The victim, as gathered, had been transferred from the Abetifi Government Hospital to the Koforidua Central Hospital to receive treatment, while the suspects are currently on the run and have been declared wanted by the Abetifi Police Command.
A resident, Kwame Darko, told DAILY GUIDE that the deceased and his friend [name withheld] were returning from their farms when the incident happened.
According to him, the two men saw two Fulani herdsmen who were riding a motorbike running after them and allegedly shot Kwasi Osei in the back, close to his neck. Mr. Kwame Darko disclosed that as soon as the suspects completed their mission, the Fulanis bolted.
According to the resident, the victim’s friend quickly ran to the nearby village called Hweehwee to call for help; and some of the people in that community joined him to convey the victim to the Abetifi Government Hospital emergency care unit for treatment. However, the health workers weren’t able to treat the victim as a result of the seriousness of the injuries he sustained; and was subsequently referred to the Koforidua hospital.
The youth at Hweehwee and its environs, upon hearing what had happened, this paper was informed, mounted a search for the perpetrator of the crime but to no avail. They rather saw the motorbike having been abandoned on a hill near Abene.
The angry youth took the vehicle away, while the family of the victim had reported the case at the Abetifi District Police Station.
