GRABBED! Isaac Boadi
ISAAC BOADI, aka KK, 26, a robbery suspect, has been arrested by the Oda Divisional Police Command in the Eastern Region alongside three others for the various roles they allegedly played in the recent robbery incident at Weija, Accra. The operation led to the death of a police officer, General Constable Prince Charles Akattah, in a purported gun battle.
Stephen Fayih, 60, a clinic dispenser and Akua Gyakyiwaa, 49, a local bar operator at Oda, are currently in the cooler together with Boadi on suspicion of possessing narcotic drugs while Francis Yaw Dwira, a cocoa purchasing clerk aged 37, was arrested for dishonestly receiving cocoa beans being robbery booty from a previous operation by Boadi and his accomplices at Oda.
Narrating the incident heralding the arrest of the four, the Eastern Regional Public Affairs Director of the Police Service, ASP Yaw Nketia Yeboah, said that a manhunt for four suspected armed robbers believed to be members of a (robbery) gang resulted in their arrests.
The police extended their hunt to a local clinic upon a tip-off that Boadi was receiving treatment for a gunshot wound which left him with an open scrotum.
Before the police’s arrival at the said clinic, Boadi had long escaped, according to ASP Yaw Nketia Yeboah.
However, he said police search led them to a village called Kwashie – located between Akwatia and Asamankese – where he was arrested in the company of his wife Evelyn Dawson.
The police arrested Stephen Fayih at the said clinic when they searched and found four wrappers of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (popularly known as wee). He had earlier admitted to giving the armed robber first aid treatment after which he referred him to the Oda Government Hospital.
Akua Gyakyiwaa, ASP Yaw Nketia Yeboah asserted, was apprehended after a search in her room revealed a bucket full of a concoction of local gin called akpeteshie and some substances suspected to be wee – known as laka or under, amongst patrons.
Further checks in her bedroom revealed a parcel of dry leaves suspected to be wee concealed in a bag containing her personal effects.
The three are in the custody of the Eastern Regional police who are investing their case while Isaac Boadi has been released to the Accra Regional Police Command to help them in the investigation of the Weija robbery case.
It would be recalled that a gun battle between the police and a 12-member robbery gang at Weija led to the death of General Constable Prince Charles Akattah of the Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Accra Regional Police Command on Wednesday. Two of the robbers, whose names were given as Doodo and Ampoma, died in the process.
Six of the suspects were arrested while four others escaped.
The arrested robbers were Kwasi Bentum, 28; Isaac Mensah, 28; Kwame Anokye, 24; Amos Bortey Borketey, 21; Yaw Richard, 22 and Sylvester Otwe, 27.
The gang, in an early press conference by the Accra Regional Police Commander, is said to be based at Oda and ply their trade in Tema, Ashaiman, Accra and their environs.
The gang is said to have been involved in several other robberies, killing some of their victims, including a security man at Melcom in Madina where they robbed the supermarket.
