The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, Saturday, promised to develop the maritime sector of the state’s economy, so as to enhance the economic well-being of the people living in riverine areas of the state.

Addressing editors and heads of various media houses during an interactive session in Lagos, Agbaje said if elected into office, he would ensure that adequate facilities were provided to enhance fishing and maritime business. He noted that the state had the potential to reap from the vast ocean and maritime resources it has, but for lack of adequate planning and attention to the area by government.

If PDP wins in Lagos, Agbaje said the government would focus on the provision of quality healthcare, security and education.

He promised to introduce a health insurance scheme that would cover all citizens, in addition to providing adequate health facilities in the state.

Agbaje also decried ‘multiple taxation’ being imposed on market women and other businesses in the state. He promised to address the situation if voted into office.

He also promised that a government led by him, would dedicate five percent of the budget of all ministries to youth programmes that will ensure a brighter future for youths through education and skills acquisition.

The PDP candidate also promised to address the problem of housing in the state. He said 150, 000 houses would be provided over a period of four years.

Agbaje promised that no “vested interest”, would control Lagos under him, adding that all government programmes and policies would not be shrouded in any form of secrecy.
