Vodafone Ghana Supports Five Engineering Students


Accra, January 06, 2015 –Vodafone Ghana has led the way in empowering five young female students under its initiative “Female Engineering Students Sponsorship Programme” (FESSP).

The scholarship programme, launched in 2011, has so far sponsored 31 beneficiaries for further studies and nurtured all 31 to work with the Telecom Companythrough internship, national service and subsequent full-time employee roles.

FESSP fundamentally empowers and embraces young female engineering students from various Universities in line with the company’s unfettered commitment to developing brilliant female graduates.

Commenting on the awards ceremony at the headquarters of the telecom giant, Chief Executive, Haris Broumidis said:

“We see this as directly in line with our commitment to nurture brilliant female students and furnish them with work experience to prepare them for the job market. I will urge the beneficiaries to show eagerness in grabbing every opportunity that comes their way in order to be successful. As a company, we will continue to act as the catalyst in making their dreams come true”.

On her part, the Human Resources Director of Vodafone Ghana, Stella Agyenim-Boateng said:

“In Vodafone, Diversity and Inclusion is one of our topmost agenda. The reason is that we want to give every woman an opportunity so long as they have the talent and skill”.

A representative of the awardees, Edith Ghunney expressed her excitement about the unique opportunity provided them by the international brand. “We pledge to give off our best to make Ghana, Vodafone, and our respective institutions and parents proud”, she said.

The scholarship package is very comprehensive and also includesthe payment of academic user fees, provision of electronic devices, free airtime, money for books as well as a unique opportunity for the ladies toparticipate in Vodafone’s flagship programmes.
