Former HIV/AIDS ambassador Joyce Dzidzor Mensah has been granted bail by the Police. Joyce was questioned by the Police to assist with investigations on matters relating to her own confessions that she is not HIV positive.
The 27-year-old mother of two had been an Ambassador for the Ghana Aids Commission for years but revealed, in December, 2014 that she has never been infected with the virus, despite parading as a carrier for several years.
However, the Ghana AIDS Commission has rejected this, and issued a statement insisting that medical records from 2007 show that, Joyce was HIV positive.
In an interview with the Daily Guide newspaper, Madam Mensah explained that she knew that the truth about her status “was going to come out and this is the time.” Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Police CID, PRO ASP Joseph Darkwa said Madam Dzidzor Mensah will return next week for investigations to continue.
“A couple of days ago, the Ghana Aids Commission filed a complaint to the Police to the effect that Joyce Mensah came to their office claiming to be HIV/AIDS positive and then she turned around to say she is not HIV positive. They made a complaint to Police and that is exactly what we are investigating.,” he said. “She came with her counsel. She was very cooperative and after today’s interrogation, she was granted bail to report the next week for investigations to continue,” he added.
