Exclusive: Rahim Ayew part ways with Kotoko

Rahim Ayew refused to extend his contract with Kotoko, following the end of his contract and has therefore left on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old was offered a two-year contract renewal but with the same financial benefits as that of his expired one-year deal, so rejected it.

George Kennedy, the Operations Manager of Kotoko has expressed that the club were bent on signing a new contract with the son of the maestro Abedi Pele, but he didn’t make himself available for it to happen.

‘Rahim Ayew told us to make a proposal and after we did it, he told us to give it to his manager, but we didn’t hear from him again.

‘His contract expired in December, 2014, so at the moment he is no more a Kotoko player and we don’t have him in our plans,’ George Kennedy told Allsports.com.gh.

Although the league champions hadn’t reached an agreement with the Ghana international, they included him in their squad for their participation in the upcoming CAF Champions League.

Ayew joined Asante Kotoko last November, after having failed to reach an agreement with rivals Hearts of Oak after protracted negotiations.

The utility player who was part of Mas-ud Didi Dramani’s first team helped Asante Kotoko to win an unprecedented double of the league and FA cup titles during his one year stay.

He was part of the Ghana team that reached the quarter finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

There are reports that Kotoko have signed Liberty Professionals right full-back Atta Kusi as a replace for Rahim Ayew.
