Dry Weather

The dry weather conditions being experienced in the country would last till the end of the month.

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) predicts that the prevailing dryness in the atmosphere would ease off approximately between the latter part of January and the beginning of February, 2015.

Mr Amos Narh, Officer in Charge at the GMA, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the weather conditions that sustained the dry weather conditions, known as the harmattan, strongly prevailed.

“There is no sign of the weather conditions that support the dry season abating anytime soon,” he said.

The harmattan season is the result of dry and dusty winds that blow over the West African sub-region, from the Sahara Desert.

In Ghana, the harmattan typically lasts from the month of December to the latter part of January or early February.

The dry weather conditions that characterise the season, increases the risk of fire outbreaks, especially bush fires.
