Rashid Sumaila Exited

South African PSL side Mamelodi Sundowns cannot register Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila despite recalling him from his loan spell at Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko.

According to a Soccer Laduma publication, Sundowns have already filled their five-man foreign quota and that leaves no room for Sumaila.

Article 2 of Rule 30 in the NSL rulebook states: “No club in the Premier Division will have more than five (5) registered foreign players during the course of any particular season, even if previously registered foreign players are de-registered during the course of the season.”

Sundowns currently have Mame Niang, Khama Billiat, Cuthbert Malajila, Kuda Mahachi and Ejike Uzoenyi registered for this season.

The only explanation is that Sundowns want to use Sumaila during their CAF Champions League campaign, though that would mean that he could only play a maximum of six games this season, or eight if they drop in the CAF Confederation Cup.
