The hope of the 17 year old Junior High School (JHS) student who was paralyzed after falling from a coconut tree is fast diminishing as his family is still struggling to raise GHC 4000 to enable him undergo a surgical operation at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).

Master Richard Djamgba, a JHS 1 student of the of the Suhum Aboabo Sonko Presbyterian Junior High School in the Brong Ahafo Region was sent by his science teacher only known as Sir Johnson to pluck him  some fresh coconuts to quench his thirst during a break time in October last year.

Unknown to the poor boy the gesture he extended to his science teacher would leave him with some physical deformities following a fall from the aforementioned tree.

The tragic incident occurred when the supporting coconut branches Richard held came loose, causing the unfortunate youth to come crashing down to the ground and lapsing into unconsciousness.

Speaking to myjoyonline from his sick bed in KBTH; bandages on his hands and swollen legs, Master  Richard said he only regained consciousness at the Suhum government hospital after his friends had taken him there.

He was subsequently transferred to KBTHl when his condition became critical.

He said he has not seen the teacher for the past three months he has spent in the hospital.

The school authorities, according to the cousin of the victim Mr. Bright Sangmor were initially reluctant to respond to the calls of the family of the victim till they threatened them with a court action which compelled them to pay part of the previous medical bills.

The family is appealing to the general public to help raise funds quickly to save the boy.
