The President, John Dramani Mahama has jokingly called on ace highlife singer, Charles Kwadwo Ofosu, known in showbiz as Daddy Lumba to grant him the copyright to his hit song, ‘Yentie Obiaa’.
The President said his call is necessary as his name has become synonymous with the lyrics of the song.
“I think Lumba must give me the copyright to the song…,” he joked in an interview Wednesday as part of events marking the two years of his presidency.
The latest hit by the highlife icon which is said to be in reaction to certain people in his life who wished bad for him was first publicly used by the President during his tour of the Ashanti Region a few weeks after its release.
Loud speakers which followed the President’s convoy during his tour of the capital of the opposition’s stronghold blasted the song in seeming response to criticisms coming from the region to the government.
Later the President was captured on tape dancing to a live band tune of the song with the overlord of Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
This was at a dinner organized by the Royal after the President commissioned the rehabilitated Kumasi Airport.
The video which went viral on social media, the President said, is a testimony to how well he has become identified with the song, hence his call for the copyright to be granted him.
The call notwithstanding, is uncertain if the legend of the highlife genre would grant the President and his party, the NDC, permission to use the song as a campaign tune for the 2016 elections.
