The Electoral Commission has announced the re-opening of nomination for district assembly and unit committee elections in a limited number of areas.

The affected areas are Antwiriso electoral area of the Dormaa District in the Brong Ahafo Region and Bowiri New Kwamekrom electoral area of Biokoye District in the Volta Region, as well as all Units where there were no nominations at the end of receipt of nominations in December 2014, a statement issued by the Commission and signed by Deputy Chairman (Operations), Amadu Sulley said Wednesday.

The statement said the exercise is in accordance with Regulation 9(1) and (2) of the Public Elections Regulations 2012, C.I 75, explaining that the reopening of nomination is to give people who may now be interested in contesting the District Assembly and Unit Committee Elections in the affected areas the opportunity to file their nominations to contest the elections.

“Nominations for the elections in the areas concerned will close at 5:00pm on Saturday, the 17th Day of January, 2015,” it said.

The Commission asked prospective candidates to obtain nomination forms from deputy returning officers in the electoral areas concerned or from the district offices of the Commission as soon as possible.

It also advised the public to listen to street announcements from publicity vans to know the Units where nominations are to be reopened, saying all duly completed nomination forms must be returned to the deputy returning officer in the areas concerned on or before 5:00pm on Saturday, January 17, 2015.

“The public is further reminded that no fee shall be paid for obtaining the nomination forms or filing to contest any of the elections.”
