President John Mahama has said his comment that the erratic power supply (dumsor) in the country will be banished this year was only a prayer request and not a promise.
The President told members of the Perez chapel in Accra in a cross over service on December 31 “The year 2015 will be one filled with fruitfulness, joy, peace, good health and development. Now this is the interesting part: It will be one in which we banish darkness from our land and put an end to dumsor forever”.
The comment has been received with a lot of cynicism on social media.
Last year, Ghana experienced severe power crisis, which is expected to roll over into the New Year as a result of the shedding of close to 450 Megawatts by state power producer Volta River Authority as a result of a fall in production due to low water level at the hydro stations and lack of regular gas supply to power the thermal plants in the country.
In an interview with Kumasi based Angel FM on the 2nd anniversary of his investiture as President of Ghana, Mahama said the comment was only his prayer request to God on the 31st night.
“I won’t say I made a promise, it was an all-night to see the beginning of 2015 and in times like that, people make wishes to God and I’m the President and seeing the way the erratic power supply is disturbing this country, should my prayer to end it be interpreted as a promise?
“ It was a prayer request I mad to God on behalf of all Ghanaians, and I’m confident God has listened to the prayer” the President stated.
