Entertainment icon, Kwesi Kyei Darkwa, a.k.a KKD would have to spend extra 6 nights in jail following the adjournment of the case in which he is alleged to have raped a 19-year-old girl.

The adjournment was giving after the Attorney General, represented by Cynthia Lamptey prayed the court for more time to study a new affidavit filed by lawyers for the accused.

According to the prosecution lawyers, they were served with the new 34 paragraph affidavit late last night, January 6, 2015 and were not able to thoroughly study its content.

On those grounds, the judge of the Human Rights Court approved an adjournment. It will be recalled that defense lawyers of KKD moved the case from an Accra Magistrate court to a higher court where they are seeking bail for their client.

They were earlier denied bail by the Magistrate Court on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 and was scheduled to reappear on January 7, 2015. Although KKD himself was not in court, his lawyers who represented him said they were prepared to go the full haul to secure bail for their client.

Some critics have argued that the rape is not a bailable offense, but one of KKD’s lawyers, Nana Asante Bediatuo in his earlier submissions in court said he made a compelling case which is likely to get bail for his client.

KKD is standing trial for allegedly raping Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson, with whom the accused said he had consensual sex.
