New year gift: Essien: Milan will fight to beat Sassuolo

Michael Essien has targeted victory against Sassuolo as AC Milan are set to boost their hopes of European qualification on Tuesday.

The Rossoneri, who are unbeaten in their last three games in all competitions, currently occupy seventh place in the table.

Twelfth-placed Sassuolo travel to Milan having struggled to pick up points in recent weeks thanks to two draws and a defeat in their previous three matches.

And ahead of the Serie A game, Essien told  Milan Channel : “It will be a difficult game for us, we will fight to win the three points, we have to be very focused.”

“The gift that I would make to the fans for a good start this new year is to win this match. I’m glad to be confirmed between the owners, I always try to do my best for the team and today I will try to help the team in any way.”

Another victory today at the San Siro could see Filippo Inzaghi’s side leapfrog the likes of Napoli and Lazio into third position.
