New coach: Equatorial Guinea appoint Becker ahead of AFCON

Esteban Becker has been named as the new coach of Equatorial Guinea ahead of AFCON 2015.

This comes less than two weeks to the event where they play as hosts of the 30th edition as a new champion is set to be crowned following Nigeria’s failure to book a ticket to the finals.

Becker replaces fired Andoni Goikoetxea who was shown the door following breach of contract after he failed to turn up at their base in Portugal where they have pitched camp ahead of the tournament.

The tactician who led the women’s national team to their crowning moment in the Africa Women’s championship in 2012 has been tasked to bring an equal achievement to Nzalanga Nacional.

He is expected to be unveiled as soon as the team is back from Lisbon where they will play a friendly match against Cape Verde on Wednesday.

The details of the contract are yet to be revealed by the new governing body led by newly elected president Andres Jorge Mbomio who won the elections on December 28 to oust Domingo Mituy Edjang.

Equatorial Guinea is the only country that is yet to name it’s African Cup of Nations squad.
