Good training: Grant happy with Black Stars attitude

Ghana coach Avram Grant says he has been delighted with his players’ effort and attitude during the opening days of their pre-Africa Cup of Nation training camp.

Grant and his squad are training at their base in Seville in the Spain, where there are readying ahead of their opening fixture at the tournament against Senegal on 19 January in Equatorial Guinea.

The Black Stars coach has been enjoying what he has described as a positive start to the competition.

“For the moment, the attitude is good, the players look very exciting with passion to do well for the country,” Grant said.

As the entire squad turn their sights to the tournament with just over a week to go for the start of the tournament, Grant is keen for his team to progress as a collective unit.

“We want to train well, we want to practice more on the aspect of football. It’s a short time but it’s enough time because the players are professionals, most of them are playing abroad. We want to put the team together in the aspect of the atmosphere, spirit, tactic and strategy.

“All the squad now are in the age that they can play in the next African Cup and the World Cup. We are building the first step of something good for the future.”

With four titles to their credit, every tournament comes with it increased expectation as the country yearns for a fifth success.

However, Grant is not getting ahead of himself but assuming that the opportunity to end the long wait is near.

“I feel the Ghanaian are very realistic about this,” Grant said.

“Ofcourse, they would want us to win but we want to win more than everybody. I think it’s a good thing and if you see all the successful teams in the world, they built themselves, they did some process and we are starting some process that I think would be good for Ghana for a long time.

“We are building the right steps, the Association supports us and the effort from the people support us. I want to win more than anybody. I would not come to any game without the desire to win.”

Having reached the semi-finals in the previous tournament, the Black Stars coach is eager to do well.

“[I want to go] as afar as I can,” the Black Stars coach said.
