Group C opponents are also scared of us, says Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan

Striker Asamoah Gyan says Ghana’s opponents at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations are also scared of the Black Stars.

Ghana is drawn in the toughest group at this year’s finals to be staged in Equatorial Guinea.

The Black Stars will open their campaign on January 19 against a tough Senegal team coached by the experienced Alain Giresse.

Avram Grant’s team will then take on an in-form Algeria side and a resurgent South Africa in their subsequent Group C games.

Confidence in the team amongst the Ghanaian fans is at a low – with many Ghanaians fearing the struggles of the team during the qualifiers will be well exploited by their opponents.

But Gyan says the other Group C contenders are also as scared due to the quality in the Black Stars team.

“From the outside people see Senegal, Algeria and South Africa – they are all in top shape, they did excellent in their qualifiers,” the Al Ain ace told MTNFootball.com.

“But one thing we should remember is that they are also scared of Ghana.

“Because they now we’ve got quality players and we can also go through easily.

“The way people are scared of them, they are also scared of us.

“What we have to do is to stay focused. As a captain I will do what I have to do to psyche the boys up and make sure we approach the tournament with a positive mind – no distractions.

“With the quality that we have in camp, I think we can do it, we can go through.”
