Aide to NDC Chair arrested for suspected robbery in Kumasi


Kumasi police have arrested a suspected criminal known to be an aide to Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Yaw Obimpeh.

Abdulai’Hussein, also known as’Migima’was arrested with a sophisticated gun said to be rare in Ghana.

He has allegedly been involved in a number of car snatching and robberies in the region.

Police link him to a car snatching incident at’Pakyi’in 2014.

Migima’was arrested yesterday together with another suspect who allegedly attacked a victim who was said to be attending a naming ceremony.

Luv FM’s Erastus’Asare’Donkor told Joy News this is the third time’Migima’has been arrested.

In’2010’he was arrested in connection with a robbery incident of a rural bank in Kumasi but the NDC regional chairman intervened and bailed him out, claiming he was not an armed robber.

Narrating the circumstances under which’Migima’was arrested, the Deputy Regional Police Commander ACP Ampofo’Duku’told the press at a news conference a victim, who was attacked at a naming ceremony, lodged a complaint with the police.

They therefore’traced one of the suspects to his residence and found’Migima’in the company of the second suspect.

ACP’Duku’said both suspects took to their heels when they saw the police.

According to him, the police mounted a heavy chase and later arrested the two suspects.’Migima’was said to be holding the rare sub-machine gun when he was arrested.

The sophisticated weapon had 17 rounds of ammunition.

The deputy police commander said in his entire career as a policeman he has never seen a gun like that before.

According to him, the weapon is not utilised by either the police or the military. The Ghana Prisons service used to use the heavy weapon, he said but it was not immediately certain whether they still utilised such guns.

He said the suspect will be arraigned before’court’for prosecution.
