International friendly: Zambia coach Janza happy with preparation after Bafana loss

Zambia coach Honour Janza said the 1-0 friendly loss to South Africa on Sunday played an important role in their preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Chipolopolo, who were crowned continental champions in 2012, were undone by Thuso Phala’s late strike at Orlando Stadium.

Janza said: “We achieved what we wanted. This friendly was for the technical bench and players to see who was ready and which areas we can improve on. This has been achieved.”

Meanwhile, Janza said he expected Bafana Bafana to attack his charges with speed in Soweto.

“They were fast and we expected that. I know we made one or two mistakes and allowed them to get that goal.

“We missed one or two chances. It’s important to utilise the chances.”

“It was a good game,” he added.
Janza’s men will start their Afcon Group B campaign against DR Congo on 18 January. Tunisia and Cape Verde are also in their pool.
