The two health staff who were quarantined after a man died at the Dominase SDA Hospital of symptoms similar to Ebola, have been released after news reached them tests on the blood sample of the deceased proved negative.<\/p>\n
The unnamed staff who had primary contacts with the 26-year-old man when he first visited the facility days before, were detained Tuesday, September 23, 2014.<\/p>\n
However, Luv News’ Erastus Asare Donkor reported\u00a0the news has come as great relief to the general hospital staff.<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old Pusiga man was said to have bled excessively through the anus and his mouth when he was sent to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Dominase in the Ashanti r egion but was left unattended to by staff who feared he was suffering from Ebola.<\/p>\n
They refused to attend to him because there were no protective gear for them to put on before attending to the patient.<\/p>\n
Eventually, the Regional Directorate of the Health Service released some personal protective equipment (PPE) but they came in too late as the patient died.<\/p>\n
The Regional Health Directorate planned to hold a workshop for the hospital staff Friday, following the development, Erastus stated.<\/p>\n
Update<\/strong> That’s a fairly terrifying estimate. The New York Times reported\u00a0that the CDC’s alarming 1.4 million number is based on the 5,864 cases officially cited by the World Health Organization (WHO).<\/p>\n Reuters also noted\u00a0that this number “is significantly underreported, and that it is likely that 2.5 times as many cases, or nearly 20,000, have in fact, occurred.”<\/p>\n “Extensive, immediate actions \u2014 such as those already started \u2014 can bring the epidemic to a tipping point to start a rapid decline in cases,” the CDC told Reuters.<\/p>\n Exponential growth: Health officials have warned governments about Ebola’s potential for rapid growth if the epidemic continued unchecked.
